Default Shipping 101 (write up)

So you finally suckered someone into buying that damn part that youve been tripping on everytime you walk into your room.... You check the mail... and woohoo... its ------- payday... you got the M/O for it... so what now? Hang on to that ---- for another month?

Hell no... you ship that ---- out the next day, or as soon as humanly possible.

Heres some guidelines to shipping things out.

1- Make sure you still have the part beeing shipped out
Saying you lost it, missplaced it, damaged it, is not a good excuse, and is almost a garaunteed *** kicking.

2-Clean the part
If its dusty, dust it off, if its greasy degrease it. No one likes opening a box full of greasy parts

3-Find an adequate box
Boxes are a dime a dozen... or better yet free, just go to your local industrial complex and look in their dumpster, its garaunteed youll find a nice sturdy box, make sure the box is bigger than what your shipping, nothing looks more unprofessional than a bulging box thats ripping at the seams. Also make sure the box is rated for the weight of the item,(ex. dont ship a head in a box of girlscout cookies)

4-Find adequate packaging material
Yeah i know news paper looks temping.... but its not the best at absorbing the abuse that the package takes upon its coarse of delivery, Once again go dumpster diving for some handy bubble wrap, or even foam peanuts, or bags full or shredded paper, this makes excellent packaging material, chances are you will find this where you found your box.

5-Packing it up
If shipping electronics (gauges, meters, afc's)be sure to add extra packaging material and keep away from other objects you may include in the package. Wrap everything individually, and Heavy stuff goes on the bottom, and fill in all empy spaces with packing material up to the point where if you get the box an shake it up and down, nothing should rattle or bounce around.(keep in mind that some of this stuff that goes through shipping companies gets beat to hell so pack tightly)

6-Sealing the deal
Go to the store and buy some tape... dont try to use 3 rolls of scotch tape... get something that is made specifically for shipping applications. Anything that is nylon reinforced is good. Tape the flaps of the box closed, then tape up the edges of the box untill you feel it wont open by accident anymore, or the box wont magically burst.

7-Going to UPS/FEDEX?/USPS and shipping it out
You should have already had a box, had it packaged, measured and weighed prior to completing the sale in order to calculate shipping charges. Fill in information, and be sure everything is correct, your adress, buyers adress.

IF the buyer specified 2 day, you give em 2-day, dont try to be slick and do it ground when you got paid for 2-day. Once item has been received and tracking number issued, it is your responsibility to contact the buyer and provide this for his/her records

I think thats it.....

pretty much just use common sense and there wont be a need for name calling......

Ghetto telling it like it is. Everyone should print this out and tape it on their wall, or frame it if you will. Nice write up. Maybe Jeff put it in his tech page :P or a sticky works

Good write up. Just wished more people would follow it. If things are as smooth as "ideal" none of us would have problems...
