Default Shift Light

I was doing some random reading tonight and came across an LED type shift light. I've always wanted a shift light but was NOT particularly fond of the FAT @$$ tach with shift light or even the regular shift light that is about 1-1/2" in diameter and like 5" in length.

Just for reference here is the intro of the article and a picture of what I am talking about. I tried searching egay and google for the product but dont know if anyone sells the "Xede Shift Light"... If you do know of any place that sells it in the US please let me know. It looks pretty cool and discrete!

If I cant find it, can someone help me with the stupid electronics of putting one together? Any techies out there? I know there has to be ground, power, and a wire that goes to another wire for the RPM signal. My question is what can I use to regulate when the light will turn on? Thanks

Just buy this RPM Switch for $9.99 on eGay....

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=2470370359

Then pick your color LED from this auction, $3.00....

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...category=33713

Then hook it up just like the shift light on page 2 of this link...

http://www.msdignition.com/pdf/pn8950.pdf

You'll hook the red wire of the LED to Positive, and the black wire of the led to the yellow wire of the RPM Switch.

All you need then is to buy the desire RPM pill for the RPM switch (this guy offers several for $10 each)....

$23 Total investment. Post pics if you go this route!

another good way is to get the one from summit, their rpm switch is cheap and you dont need pills, i used one to trip the vtec solinoid in my friends D16-Y8 converted DX civic, works great.

yeah i think thats the one. We used it to drive a relay for the vtec solenoid, but i think if you were just using it for a shift light you can forget about a relay.
