Default Removing Wrist Pins

I bought a set of SRP pistons on LS Rods....how do i get the wrist pins out? I've been told to take them to a machine shop to be removed.

That is a good idea if you don't want the pistons damaged. Those with the proper skill and tools can seperate them, but if you've never done it before don't take the chance.

My engine builder uses liquid nitrogen to cool wrist pins. You can probably do the job at home, but you'll most likely damage a piston in the process.

Hmm, that's a new one to me...I use a small propane torch to heat em up a little, and then press them out slowly in my press. I also made a special wooden holder to hold the piston in the right spot while I'm pressing to avoid scratching up the sides. Once they get warm enough they pretty much slide right out.

An electric rod heater is preferable. I took an engine building class and they had one similiar to this one:

I did it today, hammer to get it started with a 15mm socket and then use the vise and the ---- presses right out.

Throw it in the oven, heat it up nice and toasty, the pins should slide out with less effort/dammage.

I think he tries to heat the rod and cool the pin, for extra clearance. He certainly cools the pins right down when inserting them.
