Default Reinstalling OS on home PC any tips?

My home PC is running slow, bunch of errors on shutdown, basically just all around crappy and I also I wanna set it up differently. I saved all my good ----(****, pics, car ----, ****, user profile, ****) on my other computer running server 03 so I can trasfer back over when I reinstall XP Corp/Pro on my home PC.

This is going to take a few days to set it back to how I had it and reinstalling all the programs is such a pain in the ***. Oh well.

Anyone have tips or things I should be looking out for when doing this?

you'll need a good antivirus, download all the windows patches before you re-do your computer, save the patches to a cd. then when you redo your computer, and install windows, you can load them on right away before you connect your computer to the internet. otherwise virus' will download onto your computer faster then you can download the patches.

I think that's being a little overcautious. I re-install Windows for customers all the time and as long as the first website you goto is windowsupdate and not "HardcoreAmateurs.com", you'll be fine. My biggest recommendation is to Ghost the box after you're all done with it so instead of the process taking hours, you can re-do it in about 20 mins.

MS and CA have teamed up to offer EZArmor with a year of updates for free. It's AV and a Firewall.

Here is a link for it:

haha, thats about it. Be careful visiting those types of sites.. For moral reasons and also because it'll kill your pc like woah

I'd recommend reformatting the hard drive then installing the Windows XP. Make sure your partition is as big as your hard drive, unless you want two or more partitions on your hard drive. I have a friend in school that I had to help out, because he made the only partition on his hard drives 6 gigs each (he has two 80 gigabyte hard drives ).

I would recommend getting NAV and NIS, as well as maybe Ad-Aware or something of the sort so your pc doesnt go down the crapper again.

download driver's before u format.

i have a copy of Mcafee 8.0 cracked.. works great.

GET SP2 for win XP... it has built in pop-up blockers and a good firewall that you can easily make work w/ ur programs.

I never thought about GHosting the box after I have it set up the way I want it to be.

I think i'll just DL the patches/updates once I set it all up and my first website won't be www.porn4life.com :P

I have Norton Corp and Norton 03. I'm not sure what i'll be using. PRobably 03 again.

We'll see how it goes and if I have any problems I'll know where to go

Thanks.
