Default Raced a 2003 orange mazdaspeed protege

The guy was at a local hangout in Lakeland, Fl, and me and my friend Ben(nismoman) were just hangin out, and the guy comes up with his buddies and asked us if we want to race, so me and my friend Ben agree..The mazdaspeed guy then tells us, you know its turbo right, were like yeah...So we go to a old road called drain field road, no traffic out in middle of nowhere and race....The first race was the protege lined up next to Ben...Ben has A 1991 CRX dx with a 1991 LS B18A swap, just cold air intake...not turboed yet....The protege has cold air intake on turbo, and rfl bov..protege and crx lined up, i was behind the crx...the 2 go and the crx pulls about 1 car, and the mazdaspeed appeared to have good launch, about 1/4 thru the race i pulled passed the protege, i could hear his little t25 working hard.. the crx finished the race about 3-4 cars in front of the protege and so did i...My car is a 1990 civic hb si with b16a, cold air intake, itr manifold, and 2 1/4 exhaust....Crx has 2 1/4 exhaust as well....Needless to say the mazdaspeeds dont have much get up and go, from what the guy was saying and his friends he thought he was gonna beat us...We ran 1 more time after the first race and same outcome..

I have done some research on the mazdaspeed proteges, and it appears they have stock n/a motor, not built turbo internals, has the same engine as mazda mp3 and protege5, the only thing different is a turbo and ecu...I think that is kinda cheap on mazdas part..and they run 6.5 psi stock, and damn from that showing friday night they need alot more boost.

I came up next to one at a stoplight on our local cruise... he says to me "woah, is that turbo??" and im like "hell yeah bitch, lets go to the highway".

he says he knows i will beat him, but he goes anyways.

we go out to the highway, i honk three times and we're off and of course i dominate him. i slow down, let him pull up and he says "i wasnt ready" so we go again, this time i let him go first. same thing. it was sad.

those cars are slow.

They have potential, and it's a decent car for the price, but just because it is turbo it isn't fast. Some kids just think because they have a turbo the car is the ----.

and to add to the story, I had one, a yellow 2003 that tried to race me I was in my WRX, so that's just stupid fot them to even try, bad thing was that I was with my sister and 2 year old nephew, so needless to say I didn't go, they where talking ---- after that. I was only thinking, only if the baby wasn't here.....

Noy trying to be stupid or anything since i don't know much about mazdas, but if the turbo is the problem, couldn't the turbo just be upgraded instead?

I kinda like the protege, the speed version of coarse. I think it would make for a decent family car. yeah the turbo isnt all that big, and the internals arent that great, but its restricted as hell, the header, you know it sucks, and the exhaust, its restricted as hell to. open that up a bit and im sure you will have a decent little factory turbo'd car. It cant be all that bad. I would consider one if I were in the market for a new car right now.
--my next family car, an evo! 4 doors, AWD, and a 6-speed...and that sick intercooler, and .....I could go on...

turbo cars are fun, atleast mine is. I'd take even a slow turbo or a slow NA.

What kinda 1/4 can they run?

15.6 stock, put an exhaust on it, and a filter and turn the boost up a bit and im sure mid 14's arent to far off.

--as I said before I think the car is pretty bad *** from the factory. It has a ''sport tuned suspension'' stock with tokiko struts and hart racing wheels, Z rated tires, 4 wheel disc's it, the power plant it packs, and i think the interior fits it well....for the money, its not a bad vehicle.
