Default Pulling junkyard turbos..

I had a hella tough time pulling a T3 off a saab 9000 (i think) and I did'nt even finish the job. Are there any guides or shop manuals for common junkyard turbos? I was really pissed, couldnt figure a way to get at the inlet bolts, so I detached the whole mani, and all the other piping, but it looked like it was still held on by the DP> I broke 2 bolts off and the third was 100% frozen in, I broke a few chunks off and gave up.

You guys just grab the turbos off the mani somehow? Or pull everything and dissassemble them later?
Gotta ****** some turboooooos!

did you use anything like WD-40 or PB blaster or whatever lubrication you prefer??

if not do it next time. Basically you will have 4 bolts for oil and water lines, if it is water cooled and even if it is some are just hoses with clamps, 3 or 4 to the manifold, and 3 to 5 for the downpipe. You need to have the right tools, 12 point or 6 point sockets, and spray the hell out of them and let stand for some time.

There's no science to it. Just take out whatever is holding it in place, but remember to spray them before. Most of these have been in place for 10+ years, they won't come out easy.

I cut them.. and i cut the oil lines too.

If they are rubber, cut them, easiest way. Most if not all turbos are going to have some fittings, some use banjo fittings/bolts, that could be useful and will make it easier to use later on. Take as much as you can, take all the fittings connecting to the turbo if possible, they won't charge you extra, and you might need them.

pb blaster, nut and bolt removers, small torch. BFH, cheater bar, pry bars.

MHmm, I went with my whole tool kit, a BFH and a 3 foot bar for prying/extending wrenches. The torch is a good idea too. ------- bolts.

I've seen guys smash the top of the manifold with a BFH until it cracks or strips the bolts off the head.

i usually talk my friend who owns the junkyard i go to into letting me take the torch van . it doesnt have a latch on the drivers door an its fun to blast ---- with too.
