anyways, those things makes some nice torque when chipped, but the turbo is more or less a piece of crap.

There's a few 1.8Ts around my area that are pretty quick with a turbo swap and piping/intercooler upgrade.

Ill say it again. The 1.8t is full of fail.

Its a dumbass design, and no that chain tensioner does nothing for variable timing control (ala 96. What that tensioner does do constantly is leak like a **** and since it takes it oil from the cams, Ive seen a number of cylinder heads and sometimes engines replaced due to the cams seizing. Not to mention the endless sludge problems. VW solution? synthetic oil and the old big *** diesel filter. Yeah. :1

Yeah it can make 400hp on the stock bottom but so can my old as ---- outdated d16a6.

Its only redeeming factor is that it makes a buttload of bottom end torque. Which is great for a street car, but worthless in my world. :P

Way over complicated. A better way to do it with one cam gear, like it has, is to just put a couple gears on the middle of the shaft. one cam drives the other. Toyota 3.4 v6 uses that design. Pretty simple.

all toyota F heads, w/o variable cam timing, have both cams linked by a scissor type gears and then usually exhaust cam has a cam gear driven by a belt driven by the crank.

That's fine because there's still gears you can get that allow advance or retard of the cam, in fact they have models that do it electronically don't they?

Not to mention that there's one less part in that system, one less significantly weaker part than the rest.

Goddamn GM 3.4 liter DOHC failure design right there.
Ah, the goo ole X motor.

What a pile. It was rumored that they made shitloads of power in the test muels.

Still a pile of ---- IMO.

I still have never understood the reasoning behind running a chain on the backside.

Even the Yamaha V6 in the SHO is the same way.

:P
