They dont account for the dampening due to air, the change in density of the air through its range or motion, or any electromagnetic effects assuming you are dropping some metalic object through the iron core of the earth.

This is how i got through physics. I looked at what units the answer was supposed to be in. Then i looked at the units of the data given. I played around with the units until of the given data until it was in the form of the answer. It works most of the time. My physics teacher hated me.
