The Honda situation where I live has become really ghey. Everyone has CAI's, exhaust's, neons, 5" tachs and what not. Me being 16, I have given lots of thought towards purchasing a vehicle. I have found lots of CRX's for cheep and are not too bad. All tho, your every day ricer has a crx. Id love to get one cause they are a great car an Turbo-Dan has inspired me to get one because of all the non-rice mods he has done. I have learned lots from HMT, an its great here. The downfall is that, I am starting to look at Mazda RX7's lately, just because there are 2 only in town, an they are not rice either. Ones a 88 or 89 Turbo, looks very nice, an a 87 thats nice. Now the 87 has moved to some other town, an the turbo is left. Now, what are your guy's thoughts about purchasing an RX7 ? Im looking at an 86 GXL at the moment, an has 130 K on it. Not sure how to convert to miles, but 88crxsi, you should understand :P.

Anyways, this is the situation im in currently. I appreciate any comments from anyone....even you Dr.Boost

What's that supposed to mean? :P

As much as I love Hondas, they are getting overwhelming. It wouldn't be a bad choice to pick up an RX7. They don't have such a huge following that every 16 year old in the country has one and they can be fast. Jump off the bandwagon and buy what you want. I still want either a CRX or a hatch, but I feel like everybody has one and if I got one I would be just following in other peoples foot steps. ---- it.

Travis, you know its not about a trend or about fitting in.Like Doc said its about individuality. No matter what you do to a honda unless its built by a shop that builds clones your honda or whitchever car you choose will have your own individual flavor. Most people here have other cars and hondas just happen to be the brand of car that most of us choose to run with. Most the people here,by the pictures Ive seen posted have stock looking hondas. No crazy bondo, flares, hoods,or neon kits.I say if you like the rx7 cool but dont leave hondas out of your wish list just couse lots of people have them.Build your own and maybe YOU can start a new trend by being your self and not giving in to the rice.

People with bodykits and all that rice spend thier money trying to impress others.
People who spend their money on other cars just because they don't want to have a honda are also trying to impress others (by not having a honda)
What really matters is what you'll have fun building and driving. It doesn't matter if every person in your city has a honda, if thats what you really want, but dont buy one because "everybody has one" your not making decisions based on what you want, your basing your decisions on what you don't want people to think of you.

I think that 95% of people with honda's are stupid ------- ghetto *** idiots. I'm a real whiteboy that listens to country music and hangs out with a bunch of chevy whiteboys in Southern California. My chevy friends give me ---- all the time about wanting to be an asian or a mexican. :P I know people see me in my honda and probably think I'm the eminem type or some ----, but the fact is I have a honda because that's what I know, can afford, and like to build. If there were any other car that gave me the satisfaction that I get from making a fast 4 cylinder, I would have that. Trust me, do what YOU like.

I remember being 16 (I think...I was pretty stoned back then... :P)....
I remember that trying to be as unique as possible was really damn important in trying to define who the hell I was....I didn't really figure it out until much later.

Its not what you do, just how you do it...

That being said...here are the facts you should consider.
As a first car you should choose something simple..(that is if you choose to modify it...)

The Mazda Turbo RX7 comes with a freakin awsome turbo Rotory engine. Rotoraies are cool, but you really have to know what the heck you are doing before you touch it. I have read and heard many stories of blown rotaries with nothing more then simple bolt-ons. I'm not saying that they are bad, just that you have to know exactly what you do to a rotary, as they are not forgiving engines.

As you say everyone and their grand mother has a honda. A honda is pretty much built like a go-kart. They are incredibly easy to dismantle and designed very simple. Since a lot of people have them, its easy to find others to help you with any problems that may come up (if you dont screw something up...you arn't trying hard enough...)as well as easy access to a lot of cheap parts at a wrecking yard...

That being said...look at your own Mech. abilities/ambitions, forget about being "unique" and purchase a platform that you would feel best suited.

The Mazda is without a doubt the most difficult car you have chosen, but is also the most rewarding. Rotary engines are truly amzingly engineered.

However Honda does have a large following (non-rice oriented) and you wouldnt have to look hard to find someone to help you with your new vehicle

130 km = 80k miles. fyi...

just because everyone and their mother have a honda (be it a civic or crx) doesn't mean that you have to have one that looks identical. You won't find many people on here that are 'ricers'.

But. You have said a Mazda rx-7 as a choice. Don't rule out other options as well.. VW vr6's are cool. (gti's) and there is a large aftermarket for those aswell. a Del Sol is not that common around here (Toronto). Nissan 240's and 200's are fun.

but an rx-7 is a great platform. Just be careful when working on those things.

Well, I don't care how many ppl have them...I like honda's cause they're fun to drive, great on gas mileage, and easy to work on. I feel like that's the reason alot of ppl my age drive them. NOT because everybody else has one...it's one of the cheapest platforms out there also...Rotaries are bada$$ but they are NOT cheap, especially when it comes to performance...just be yourself, do and drive what you enjoy, and as far as what everybody else(rednecks, wiggars, spicks, porchmonkies, etc.) says, tell em to kiss your a$$.... peaaaace
