there is 16 gauge exhaust piping out there. I say grab one, it'll look nasty but it'll work, I doubt you could do charge pipes.

Oh, and a stolen co2 bottle does work. That's how I got my 40cf argon bottle. What I did was swipe a couple co2 bottles that had the pepsi logo on them and ---- and figure I could have a need for them in the future. I thought I would run a 100% co2 to weld mild steel, but the pepsi logos had to go.

So I took the dremel and ground that part of the tank down, filled in the flat spot with bondo, painted the bitche flat black. Took them to the welding supply shop and was like "yo can i get this motha ***** filled"

Instead of filling it, they told me i should be running an argon bottle and so they gave me a $100 deposit for my co2 bottle, charged me $20 to re hydrocheck the co2 bottle. Another $20 to get my argon bottle filled with 75argon/25co2 and then I had to buy a few gallons of liquid nitrogen from them fro $20. So all in all, I haven't been back.. scammed them for a bottle that will most likely fail hydrocheck and if they sand down the bondo the will find the pepsi logo.

so you can get creative, take a pair of chain cutters and go behind a restraunt and steal a 20 pound bottle of co2. Steal two while you are at it since they are great for making a kegorator.

thanks quad, you've been extremely helpful and it is much appreciated

I'm gonna be reading this thread a few more times as i contemplate on what welder to get.

But I do have another question for you. You stated earlier that
If something had a low of 40amps and a high of 80amps, that would benefit you more in the long run, especially for a non shielded welder.
With that in mind would this welder be ideal? Since it's got an amp output of 35-88? And it's only $215 shipped :P

Then again I'm starting to really think about the mig/gas welders. I just didn't want to jump into it right away, and seeing doc boost's electric welder do the downpipe job at one of the installs I figured it'll be a okay.

And sohccrxsi, I would buy your welder, but it's just too much for me right now Unless you wanna trade for an r/c car. :P I might be checking out walmart pretty soon.

If you are spending in the $200 range then you better just go buy a MIG. I got my 110v craftsman professional MIG for like $230ish shipped (I searched ebay for a while looking for that kinda deal). Welder I got had barely any hours on it, but the prior owner did lose the spool spring ($3 at hardware store). Like what street_queens said, $250 wal mart special, take it back if you don't like it. The MIG welders can always have the polarity reversed to run flux core, so you can have all the benefits of that $100-150 wire feed welder now, but a much better operating range. If you like, you can always upgrade to shielding gas in the future (when u can afford it).

There is also the little lincoln weldpak outfits that are wire feed with the option of MIG (like $100 kit to add-on shielding gas support). They are pricey for what you get, but this all depends on the deal you find. Nothing wrong with a used but not abused machine, if you can afford to spend $200-250 then just go with the MIG, you'll be happy you did in the end.

Most ideal setup for a MIG would be the Millermatic 135 or the 175 (220v). I used to have a Millermatic and it was the bomb. I'm either going to get another one or hook up with a lincoln since I'm upgrading my ---- soon

Let me know what u find.

see what you can find used. go around to local pawn shops and check out their inventory.. you can always haggle the price down with them.

look around ebay, let me know if you need some more direction.

not all wal marts carry mig welders, so just check around.

I think if we had a welding-fabrication section, I would be the moderator of it :P

Actually that is with certain welders.. best to read the instruction manual and figure that one out.
