I tuned a real laid back Asian kid's SOHC hatch with one of the OBX turbos on it. Regular Garrett clone, not the FP clones. It ran alright, but there was a bit of thrust slop in the turbo and it was low miles.

Honestly I've never heard of a single one failing either, usually everyone classes it in with the standard ebay chinese line. I'm still pretty damn sure they're all chinese made, but maybe they try to get the higher quality pieces? I don't know, and I wouldn't take that risk until I knew for sure from testing and R&D that they were solid.

Thrust slop....yeahhh, stuff like that makes me not like OBX. :P

actually, you would be surprised what just asking will do. i asked my supplier about R&Ding some ---- and i have a turbo kit for my M3 on its way to me. they say it doesnt fit right and they want me to make it fit right then send it back to them. part of my payment for doing it is a free turbo kit after they make the changes in the factory. i plan to do a write-up on the whole thing and when i get my kit to actually run on the car i will give solid info on what i think of the turbo itself. i have a feeling i will be making my own manifold for my own personal car rather than using their manifold, but i will use theirs to do what they want.

This is true...just look at Greddy. Their turbo's and different pieces are made in china, even Apexi's coil-overs are made by a company in china and are the same CO's sold by megan racing for the evo 8's with a price tag that's less than half.

I honestly wouldn't mind doing the R&D work on it, even though it does bolt onto the stock manifold. Just to see if it really performs and give my feedback on it and datalogs might help, especially if it really does turn out to be a decent turbo after all. I know there would be thousands of Evo guys scarfing these up if they did turn out to be good, so that in itself might be a boost for me.

What would you run it on? An Evo?

Yeah, I have an '03 Evo 8. I have all the other upgrades in place (cams, injectors, fuel pump, monster fmic and all hard piping, exhaust, tuning...everything) and just to swap turbos over would take me about 2 hours and time to datalog and play with the tune.
