I absolutely understand what you're saying. I've developed a really good partnership with a bender which allows for this to be worth my time. I'm in this more for the long haul, so I'm doing this to establish a name and reputation for my business. In a few of years, I'd like to be engineering my own parts and doing a lot more high end stuff. So this is to get my foot in the door with sales and developing a client base.

Because of this, my customer service will stay as good as a company charging double my prices.
To me, it's worth it in the long run.

I would begin to develop those parts that you are hoping to develop. With the way mandrels, couplers, ect are going, it's going to be very hard to create a name for yourself. It's also very hard to go from the low budget market (HMT) to other markets (say, the market you hope to hit with your custom parts) like HT.

Ask hotrex. lol.
