Most people who take a .22 to the body are still fully capable of running away or skull ------- your wife. Let me tag you with my .45 and see how long you can keep your *** up for.
...that's why I always aim for the head. .22's got enough penetration to get in...but not out. Turns the goddamn brain to swiss cheese. Instant death.
BUT, if you'd rather not kill the ****** instantly and risk the legal implications (unless he's in your house, then you're best bet is to revoke his birth certificate post haste), then you're absolutely right. Opening the biggest hole with your first shot is A MUST. .45's are king! Technically speeking, though, anything .38 and up will do the job just fine ('cuz you WILL be using hollow points, right?)

To answer Stealthmode:
Normally I would say listen to the shop owner, they know shitloads about guns. In this case, though, I'd definately have to say that it sounds like he's trying to sell you a "starter gun" in hopes of selling you another one later. If you really want to get a pistol that's great for a first gun, AND will keep your butt shittin' out the right holes in case things go bad...I would have to say .32!¡! (9mm ain't bad either, especialy since the ammo's cheap and range time is YOUR BEST FRIEND)
It's been a long time since I shopped for .32s but I'll get back to you for some reccomendations from my old days.

That was another thing he was saying with the 22 ammo being cheap, so that I could shoot alot. I definately don't want to go to war with a slingshot, but I don't have the experience to draw with Clint Eastwood or anything. Some suggestions would be good. Thanks.

OK, first off, that's just plain NOT TRUE. I know that either in order to save face, OR because someone you believe told you it's true, you'll probly coem bakc telling me I'm wrong, but trust me IT"S NOT TRUE!

This misconception comes from the phrase "knockdown power" which in reality refers to how quickly a round wil "drop" someone, NOT because it actually knocks them down. There is absolutely no handgun round in existance which can physically knock someone down, or push them back. It's simple physics. Even if a round was fired with enough momentum to knock you down, the low cross section of a pistol round would cause it to penetrate completely through your body before it would be able to transfer enough energy into your body to cause you to be moved by it. The only time someone is "knocked back" by a handgun roung is when their central nervous system causes a reflex action which "thrusts" your torso backward in response to the sudden trauma...and even that doesn't happen very often.
In short, a pistol will NEVER knock someone back...in any way shape or form. End of story. Goodbye.
Thank You

I wonder what would happen if you took a direct hit to a bone? :P

Next time just save it, because it makes you come off looking like a jerk even if I am wrong.

I don't know, the opening disclaimer got him off the hook. So do I need an AR15 on 3 round burst?

No, not at all. I was merely saying that you can't knock someone down with a handgun. You CAN however stop them dead in their tracks and drop them to the floor in ancapacitated pile-o-meat just fine with a handgun (and in 2 shots or less with .45Auto hollow points)

As far as my suggestion of a .32ACP I'd have to reccomend either a Beretta Tomcat or an H&K HK4 (both a vailable for less than $400)
However after refreshing my memory as to the cost of ammo...I'd probly just reccomend you go for a good 'ol 9mm. Depending on the pistol, it might be a tiny bit hard to handle at first, but I doubt you're much of a wuss(you haven't had any major wrist/arm injuries, have you), so you should get use to it pretty damn quick...if you put in the practice. That being precisely why I would say go for a 9 because they are one of the cheapest loads there is, so you should be able to afford PLENTY of range time. Speaking of ranges, the absolute best way to pick your first gun is to go to a range. Go to a good range on a couple different days (you want to make sure it didn't just feel good that day and shoot a few different pistols to find the one that's right. Everyone is different, and that is THE MOST important part of choosing a gun. If you go with a 9mm, ask to hold each of the different sizes of Glock 9mm (they offer about 6-7) in order to see if you're comfortable with a compact, or need a full size, or if something in the middle suits you best. Then, go into range and test fire (they rent them out) a few differnet models, Glock, Sig P-Series, Beretta, Colt...and find which one feels the best after putting at least 2 mags through each. Also note how easy or hard it is for you to load their mags, AND load and **** the pistol...again getting the feel. It also depends on how you're going to carry/use the pistol as well. Why? Because the Glock (and some others), for example, have a "safetyless" design, which means you don't have to flip off the safety when you draw the weapon. On the other hand, a gun which has a safety ABSOLUTELY cannot fire when you have the safety on, even if you accidentally pull the trigger (clothing snag, dropped weapon{N/A to Glocks}, etc.. ) If you end up prefferring the blocky polymer Glock type design (I do), you might not want to plop down the money for a Glock, which means the safety issue will have a SLIGHT influence on your decision (although, truthfully I have NO problem with safetyless guns, but that's me). If you find out the classic slim steel autos fit you best, you'll probly fall in love with either a Beretta or a Colt...but they're even more expensive! In that case I MUST reccomend you buy a CZ (they're called that because the company is in the Czech Republic, where gunsmithing is more common than carpentry). Their are a few differentmodels with slight variances to choose from CZ B, CZ A, CZ F, etc and the guy at the gun store will be best able to help you figure out which ones your baby, but they're all almost identical to the Beretta in feel and use. The reason I reccomend them instead of the Beretta is because THEY'RE TONS CHEAPER. The CZ might just be THE best value in a handgun there is. I've never heard anything but good from their owners and they run about 1/3 the price of a good Beretta 9mm.
Well, happy shopping!

(If I'm ------- this all up and sound cionfusing just ask me anything)

About a month ago while I was really getting into the idea of buying a gun (now that I don't live in socialist California) I actually picked out a CZ that I liked. Not knowing anything about the different calibers and all that I picked the CZ 2075 RAMI out of pure attraction.

Now that I looked on their site for that pic, I think this is one is new that I seem to like:

Now, that first one says it comes in 9mm or .40, and I know it's gotta be the size of the bullet, but I couldn't tell you what the difference is.
I do have kids, so having a safetyless gun around isn't an option. All I really want is something small, something that weighs nothing, and it has to mow a crowd down in a heartbeat.

Oh yeah, so of course I'll get a kick out of shooting at the range, but I can't say shooting is going to be my new favorite hobby. Is it ever an ok idea to buy used handguns? If so, where? Thanks.
