I always come to you guys for good advice on things, so please help me out. I have to make a final decision in two days to begin my build. I want to run a good setup on my d16z6. I got forged internals and highly modified head. The one problem is the block. I don't have a digital camera to show you but, I'll try to give you all the info i can. The seller said it was sleeved and you really can't tell. The block has been closed in and looks like it has been welded to form a closed deck. It also could have been filled. I can't see the fire ring on the cylinders, just the part of the wall for the pistons. The block is to be decked and bored out for internals. The mechanic said that it could not seal correctly when i build it and put a head gasket on it. The block basically looks like a closed deck block. The other suggestion i made was to have the forged internals and another d16z6 block with a stock sleeve and a block guard. I wanna run about 300 to 350 hp and the mechanic said stock sleeves wouldn't hold that. He said it would be about reliability and to me he made a good point. Should i take the chance with the sleeved block or run a stock d16z6 block? I really wanna run the sleeved if i could.

runing a half built race motor on the street in a DD isint reliable no matter what you do. ---- happens, and it always will.

i would shy away from the "mystery block"

get a stock block and throw th einternals in it.

i had noissues at 18 psi on stock sleeves.

no matter what, you will have problem after problem, that shte essence of a turbo honda

good point, how are block guards useless? They have to help out alittle bit, right?

there supposed to help with vibration ... how ever.. with hondas its not what breaks the sleeves .. usually detonation so unless you have different sleeve's thats the only thing that will hold ..filling a block is better then a block gaurd but still pointless becouse the sleeve can crack or brake at the same hp level filled of open stock sleeves

Block guards are used to help prevent movement of the cylinder sleeves. Some restrict the coolant flow which will cause the engine to overheat. Based on this reason some people consider block guard to be useless. I have read a few stories about people who have used them without any problem. If you use a block guard make sure you get the block line-bore.

why not just block post it? itll cost less, and cool better.
