take the pan off and take it to autozone.... the bolt pattern and gasket shape varys on the diffrent generation chevys so tell them what you think it is and go from there. thats what i did

1955 to 1985 are the same, 1986 started the one piece rear main seal.

You trust Autozone to know ANYTHING

Newb, short rope, go swing!

400 SBC 2 bolt were stronger, but 350 2 bolt are quite strong also. They can handle 500 hp on the bottle with ease.

I doubt its a 396 due to price. I would put my money on a 350

Don't forget that there are 2 different thickness seals for the front of the oil pan.

This has to be one of the weakest threads I've seen in a while. If you were tearing the motor down anyway, why didn't you just measure the bore X stroke to find out what size it was? :P
As for the main cap conversion, I know Miloden sells the 2-4 bolt conversion caps, and they are stronger than the standard 4 bolt when completed properly.
