Default need opinions on bikes

i've been recruited by mother-in-law to buy father-in-law a motorcycle for 50th birthday. So far we're leaning toward a Honda VTX1300. We like the looks of that bike. He's not into sport bikes. We checked on a few Harleys also but the V-Rod is probably too much bike though it looks badass. He hasn't ridden in 20 years, but he's no wimp so i'm looking for people's opinions on new bikes similar to the VTX1300. Staying at $15k and lower preferably.

The VTX 1800 is a better bet. My buddy has one and its quite fast for a big bike. It will actually pull the front end off the ground shifting hard into second if it doesn't completely ignite the tire.

if it helps, my dad just bought a new sportster. he loves it, $130 a month. he rides it around quite a bit. -he loves it. yeah, its just a sportster, but he enjoys it, and it doesnt really cost him anything. he to hasnt ridden in -well longer than i have been alive, (22 years)

now, my father in law rides a kaw ZRX1200 and he absoutly loves it. its not a "crotch rocket" but it handles and has the power of a crotch rocket. you sit up on it, vs down on your wrists. he accually uses it to do 'touring' where a ride for him consists of 3 days of non stop riding. he accually won the iron butt 2 years ago, if you wanna know more about that, look it up.

but anyways, heres a pic of his bike, but he has corbun fiberglass bags for it, and a corbin seat.

hope it was a help.

Man if you're not gonna get a crotch rocket, you have to get a harley. go for a sportster for something small or a roadking for something big. a vrod is a great all around bike there is no such thing as too much. Beacause no matter what you have you'll always want more. Also there is something like a bandit or sv650 which looks kinda like a crotch rocket but you sit more upright, and you can get them naked and not pay sportbike insurance and they look bad ***

It's not a "crotch rocket" and it's not a Harley.

Gotta be this one: http://www.buell.com/en_us/bikes_gea...xb9r/index.asp

Those bikes respond very well to mods. It's not hard to make them haul ***.

I ------- love Buells, but too sporty for the guy. The VTX bikes are much more his style. The way the front end is raked on the V-Rod is a little too steep, less stable at low speed (it's made to go way fast). Also the front tire is fatter on the VTX than the V-rod making it a little more comfortable. All in all looking for a comfortable bike that looks good, probably won't be taken on trips, and can handle as well as go in a straight line. I know comfort isn't something the guys on this site focus on alot but c'mon the guy is turning 50.

I say sportster. and just so everyone knows, and for the record, the sportster is no longer solid frame mounted. -makes things a little more comfortable for the rider.

i say sportster.
