Need help from comp nerds...
I need some help. :P
To keep it short and sweet, installing Windows XP on my buddies computer, it gets to 33% and doesn't progress. I've cleaned my CD, even switched hard drives quickly to see if that was the problem, nothing.
What do you think the problem could be, maybe CD-ROM drive? I'm cleaning it right now, we'll see how goes...

how long did you let it sit at 33%? usually if you leave it alobne for a good bit it kicks in again. some installes have his script in it to prevent the cdrom from overheating and sending corupted data. some cd burning software does this if you burn really fast it will stop at a percentage for a lil bit and kick back in.
if that doesnt work. tap the cdrom a lil bit. if that dont work, kick it.

Eh, I kicked it yesterday and let it sit for another 20 minutes and it didnt do anything. I didn't even reinstall this time, just turned on the computer and let it continue its install. I cleaned the laser and other junk, so I'm guessing that maybe I just fixed the problem

You are looking for something along the lines of: "Boot Protection" or "Anti-Virus Protection", something like that, I'd have to check.
dont forget to save your settings when you're done.
edit; you want it DISABLED!!, u can Enable it back when done installing WinXP.
Also, if thats not it, only connect the bare neccesseties such as Graphics card, HD, Memory, KB/Mouse/Monitor. and try again.

Tatakai, the other hd is fine, checked it on my computer, and it boots up and is recognized on the other computer. I had it formatted as NTFS on here and it worked great.
tukinnam, actually its BIOS, it's just stored in CMOS :P but thanks for the advice, ill check that in the future if I have that problem again in another job.

And other than switching to Linux (since no one seems to want to use it ever), XP is basically the best out there right now, as far as compatibilty and such.. sucks but this is the best I can do.
