I got an aluminum conversion kit for my lincoln MIG welder and its a huge ------- bitch to weld but it gets the job done. A TIG welder would be nice but they're expensive as ---- and require alot more skill than a MIG.

i don't know a lot about wire feed aluminum welding, but from what i've heard they aren't that easy to use. you would be better off selling his mig you bought him and putting the money towards a tig. you can weld just about anything you want with a tig- ms, ss, aluminum, you can even weld bronzed aluminum or ampcoloy with the proper filler rod if you really wanted. mig welders are more for heavy fabrication where accuracy isn't important but speed is. you have a lot more control and options with a proper tig machine. you can use different diameter electrodes for different amperage settings as well you can get many different diameter filler rods. with practice and a little skill you can become a good tig welder. anyone can use a mig.
here is a tip for mig welding: if you want to create a weld but keep a sharp edge at a flange, clamp a .25" thick piece of copper to the edge where you don't want any weld and it will work as a nice stop. you can try and weld right into it and your bead won't stick to it at all, leaving a nice flat edge where the copper is once you unclamp it.

I really dont think you'll find anyone who will argue about how a MIG is better then a TIG. TIG is sooo much nicer, but I think why not many here do it is that whole money issue. Most of the TIG machines I've come accross are like 1k$ and up. Not that that is overpriced, but its just that they usually are a bit past our price range here at HMT...
