Need to find Subaru motor
A friend of mine blew up the motor in his 04 STi and the dealer isn't going to warranty it. He needs to find another one to put in, the dealer gave him some crazy price for a long block. Anyone know of any places that i might be able to find one ? I can't find a longblock. I tried car-parts.com and the ones are there are sold. Any ideas ?

Wow blowing up an STI is not that easy. Crazy boost, bad tuning or crappy driver.
Anyhow, I blew the tranny on my WRX about a month ago, an I'm getting a Forester transmission put in as I write.
Anyhow, the guy I purchased my transmission from is a Subaru Mechanic at the South Orlando dealer, he gets parts , I know he has a WRX engine, complete, that he was selling for $1700 if I'm not mistaken.
An STi engine will be pricey. Check ebay, and do a search for used subaru parts, then fill out one of those salvage yard requests, they should get back to you in a few hours.
BTW, what happened to the car, how did it blow.

Re: Need to find Subaru motor
Stock motor Stock everything....not easy to blow ?The first motor there was a "malfunction" in the oil system they said and it froze up the block and Subaru said it was their fault and put a new short block in and that was it. Well about 10k miles later the current motor ate all of the oil in 1300 miles after the oil change. Subaru is the only people to work on it, now they say they won't warranty it, the trubo was using excessive oil they said and the heads are junk and they won't pay a dime. I think it's kinda bullshit, it didn't leak a drop of oil at all, just all the sudden used the 4 quarts or whatever it is. So they want 6k for a new motor. Perhaps the lack of oil cocked the turbo the first time ? Perhaps the heads should also have been changed after the first "malfunction".

I would need to verufy the price if you are interested, but I saw it, and still had everything, turbo, manifold, alternator, well a full swap.
I see the problem was with the actual engine/car. Subaru's warranty blows big donkey dick, they might repair some things the first time, but even if it happens again, they will blame racing or abuse and not want to cover it.
There's a subaru dealer in Tampa, FL Mastro Subaru, that has an in-shop speed shop, they are pretty good when it comes to warranty work, because they really know what can damage a car, and what can't.
That's why when I purchased mine, used but from the dealer, I told them to stick their extended warranties up the ***, and modified the car. When I took it for a recall, the first thing they said was, you know you voided your warranty because you modified your exhaust and that air valve, referring to the BOV,
I was like yeah, so.....they looked at me mad.

Re: Need to find Subaru motor
im not saying i dont believe ur story, but i can believe this crap. The dealer is really trying to pull a fast one over on your friend or what. You better call subaru of American and threaten to stop paying for that ---- if they are not going to take care of the lemon they sent you. I have a wrx and sure would be pissed if they tried to do that to me, not that id let them change my oil , but you catch my drift.

Is not only the difficulty finding one, is the price of it. Honestly it might be better to make sure he has gap insurance, strip the ---- out of the car and burn it down.
Of course this is illegal and if you get caught you will go to jail, and will have to live with it in your consience for the rest of your life, but it's an out.
Try the salvage yard search. When I was looking for my tranny I did the search and I got some hits on STi transmissions, but they wanted over 4k for them. The engine will probably be anywhere from $5k to $7k, just because it is new and somewhat limited.
