I have a computer with a ECS mother board p4 running @ 1.6Ghz , 80gig maxtor hard drive and 1 gig ddr ram running Windows XP professional with SP2...

I ordered a Seagate Barracuda 250 gig hard drive with a kingwin external HD enclosure running USB 2.0

now, when I attempted to transfer files from my internal IDE hard drive to my Seagate I Get this error

"Write Delay Error....data couldn't be saved all data is lost...."

i have checked all over the net and this seems to be a big problem with XP users...my question is

how can I get this ***** ***** to work...
should I bite the bullet and go Linux, XP is pissing me off and if it wasn't for certain programs that I need I would **** on Bill Gates

has anyone encountered this problem....apparently XP SuXxOrs at teh life and gets PwNeD by big hard drives....

ohh and can some one recommend the best version of Linux to use...I have Knoppx 3.7 live CD that I use to fix my comp when it gets owned under XP....

I have been at this for three days and I am going crazy any help would be appreciated thanks...

try the external drive in another pc, very doubtful but check to see if the cd that came with the ext case are the drivers installed, maybe try reformatting the hard drive... are you sure you have the pins fully inserted?

I use XP for mIRC, Adobe ---- and such...its actually my brother who needs all that ---- under XP...he couldn't work under a linux enviroment if his life depended on it

We tried the external HD on a laptop IBM 500 Mhz with USB 1.1 and XP SP2....it recognized the HD automatically and we were able to transfer files with no errors....but its slow as *****....

my main tower recognized the hard drive as 232 gigs and we formatted the hard drive...this is the main computer that I am having trouble with....

Is there a reason it needs to be external? I mean why not just putit inside the tower, wouldn't that solve your problems if you just ran it as a normal slave drive?

i wanted to run it external so I can back up the data on my laptop too...my network goes down alot and I try to share a connection between my two computers thats why i wanted an external...

I will try to install the hard drive internally to see if XP can handle it....

For the casual Linux user (non-command line) you could check out Red Hat
