Re: My frist bike
my gixer with i\h\power commander kills liter bikes on the twistes, I get raped on the straight line though.. been riding for almost 3 years and ive found out the hard way that riding is more about skill than just power. any idiot can get in a car and go fast... worst case scenario you crash, get a couple of bruises... try that ---- on a bike without knowing wtf ur doing and you'll be dead before you hit the quarter mile
just curios how old r u?

Re: My frist bike
A good buddy of mine died a few months ago, lost control with his 1st bike ,a 1000 gixxer. Just a week after I test drove it.I love bikes and have been biking since I was 16.(yeah really young). So all the advice I can give is just to take care of yourself. I've seen some biking schools were you can upgrade your skillz.

Re: My frist bike
unless you've ridden a liter bike before, you really DONT have any idea how fast they are. without knowing you, i wouldn't even recommend a new 600 honestly. the 600's of today are just about as fast as liter bikes of 7-8 years ago, and are too much for MOST. of couse some people can go out and buy the fastest thing they can afford and be ok, but the statistics suggest otherwise.
buying an older bike first has ZERO downsides. you could go out and buy a sv650 or something for 3000 and you're not going to lose any money if you sell it a year later, and you wont have to spend 1500 bucks to fix it if you drop it in your driveway. ridding around on a brand new bike thats all fucked up makes you look like a lot bigger of a tool than ridding around on an older, slower, smaller bike. oh and unless you happen to be able to afford full coverage insurance on that new bike, you're pretty much fucked if you bag it.

It has been about a year since I rode anything big. I might go this weekend and test drive a 600 and see how I feel.

No matter what you ride it will feel slow eventually. We are just trying to keep the statistic down here and save your life. Buying a liter bike if you are someone with less than atleast 5 years of experience on a real speed bike is just not a good idea. Sure, you MIGHT be ok but chances are you will die and we will have a death thread on here about it some time this summer. In reality, who cares if your 600 feels "a little slow" after a couple years as long as you are still alive to ride it. That is only the perception of the bike once you are used to it anyway. I'd rather be alive to ride my 600/750 after a year than buy a liter+ bike and not be around.

You can die just as easily on a 600, they are not much
slower than a 1000. If you take it to the track you will
never get bored. Also 1000's tend to be like 3k more than
a 600 wich is a nice chunk of change to get gear.
