he was never running check valves with the vafc.
the vafc uses the signal from the map sensor then converts it. now if you put check valves in there you will get no signal under boost. leaning the car WAY WAY out and causing masive problems and engine failure.
not to mention the stock map only raeds 12ish pounds of boost. so you will be massively leaning out there too. also making your story questionable
but i guess its your story so you can tell it how ever you want :1

How about the internals, are they stock: or are you running custom rods, pistons, etc?
Any idea how strong the stock d17 rods are (compared to a d16)?
What are you running for fuel management; just a chipped ecu map, fmu?
