Cool, I like it haven't really gotten into Mazdas much even though i own one :P but no need for a swap for mine, you think you could squeeze the MS protege motor in there 
You can find those motors around here pretty easy is that also similar to the zx2 1.9 or 2.0 motors? Straight swap no custom mounts or anything for that?
I don't the Mazda form i was on seemed like most people didn't really know anything about cars but it aways nice to see something other than a Honda on here

AE86 - is your head up an *** in that avatar?
baldur - look at my cardomain. if you want to see boosted goodies that where i am hiding them. as for now na/ is nice for a daily driver.
jy racer - thansk for the love. yes crx and i talk all the time. he knows what i am up too.
loserkidwac - the 1.9L and 2.0L are 100% ford. so swaping over would take a bit of work. along with teh fact they at returnless fuel systems and i am not.
whiterice - we use a VAM not a MAF. but no they are not the same. externally they look a like but the internals are differenet settings. i can upgrade to a non-turbo 86-88 rx7 for a few more high rpm horses if i want. but i need to tune it if i go that route.
the 1.6L turbo is the gayness! its turbo and quik but not as cool as the 1 .8L gtx from japan. it is the same baseline power as my 1.8L n/a. my red car had a jdm gtx 1.8L. it made mad tyte torque numbers. look at my signature. the motor is mazda but its from an escort. if you think mazda crap look into the bp and the fe2 motors. torque is the true value of power not horsepower. yes this motor has a ford valve cover i have a mazda on i just had sand blasted an i need to clean the sand from the inside of it before installing it.
it should hang with if not beat ls swapped hatchs. my red car n/a would beat ls swapped coupes. this is the same motor spec as what was stock in the red car.

Clean swap. Neuman is the reason I've wanted always wanted to do up an escort lol
Maybe one of these days I'll break out something nice...
In this case, swapping out a 160k+ mile engine./tranny/everything for an 80k mile works out rather nice
