nothing is wrong with ford automobiles, the only reason any car breaks down is bad design which now adays almost all cars are built pretty good and second you beat the hell out of a car and it is bound to break down sometime. For a ford mustang i wouldnt settle for anything less the the v8 with a manual tranny but otherwise i have had a few friends with built mustangs that felt like your neck was gonna snap off

This thread is probably going to turn into a flame war which is a shame. I bought my first Mustang this summer and so far its been the most fun car I've ever owned. RWD, torque, and a limitless supply of cheap parts is awesome.

There are 2 types of people in the world; those who hate Mustangs and those who own one...

Unlimited amounts of potential in the mustang gt. I would get one. The difference will mainly be in your goals. You want cheap power and performance, get it, it will be fast for next to nothing. If you want to build a ricey car, get a jap car. Mustangs look great the way they come, nothing needed, but then again they will look like a million more out there, wish is fine with people like me.

I have always liked mustangs, my brother has a 66 302 swapped mustang, and a 99 cobra.

that body style actually went to 04 my buddy has an 02 and he's let me drive it, I love that car, it looks sick its black with 18inch black saleen wheels, another friend of mine has a 95gt convertable thats got some mods its a pretty fun car to drive as well, easy to get sideways I was considering a fox body as my next car since they go fast for cheap and I like the sound of twin turbo or nitrous.

dont expext it to be a handler. mustang suspensions are based on the 30 year old pinto design. although refined over the years.
as far as aftermarket parts, you whouldnt have any problem at all finding them. theres as many aftermarket parts as hondas. the 302 has been around forever. for about the same price though id go with an lt1 or ls1 z28 which whould own the stang any day.

personally prefer to not own a mustang. to get a good mustang you have to get the top of the line. its cobra or broke for me, i wouldnt want to waste my time with anything else. that and i dont like the interior or how it feels to drive. stock they look pretty lame to me as well, after wheels and suspension it starts looking pretty sweet.

i was just never a ford guy. i'm not really an american car guy although i still appreciate awesome american cars, vette c06 for example. but its just not my cup of tea
