Anyways there is another program, E-Donkey 2000 which uses the same database server for file transferring.
E-Donkey and E-Mule are only effective for larger file downloads. They were also great because they host .iso's and .bin's for complete DVDs (you can load these files in the burning software, and if you had a DVD-RAM you could burn a DVD quality mpeg!) They were also great for downloading very large software that was on multi-discs. I think of over 7,000 files I've downloaded from that service, maybe 5% of them were "not what was advertised" or contained viral/backdoor programming. Thats a drastic difference between Emule and Kazaa. 0% of the files I ever got through sharereactor fell into either category, they were always correct, always worked, and usually came with CD-KEY generators or breakers (if it was software).
Right now there are a dozen programs you can choose from for file sharing.
Kazaa (use Kazaa-Lite, be sure to have an up to date anti-virus program installed if you download any non-mp3/txt files. There are security holes in movie players that do allow malicious code to be executed). I recommend Lite because it comes without spy or ad-ware.
Lime - I haven't ever used this program, but I have heard about it several times, you'll have to do a search for it.
WinMX - www.winmx.com (works alot like Kazaa)
Emule - (www.emule-project.com) - This is what I highly recommend for files that are greater then 20 megs in size. It runs a little bit slower at starting (it uses a very powerful process for caching files).
E-Donkey - http://www.edonkey2000.com/ (works similiarly to Emule)
If you have any more questions just ask, I'll do my best to address them.

Regarding those who got caught transferring files.
Their only capable of monitoring people who have files available for download (that is, those who are sharing the files).
It is still in stipulation about whether or not "downloading" should be considered illegal. This is because of the following scenario.
I own a CD by Metallica, on the CD is the track "Enter Sandman". I already own this CD, but I want to get the song in MP3 format. So I surf the net and download it. Technically I have broken no law, because I own the rights to an MP3. It is impossible for the RIAA to anticipate what songs I already "own" without launching a deep investigation on me (much to costly for them).
That is what is holding the RIAA away from nailing people for downloading - and it is a pretty strong case.
So, the lesson here is... either use an open proxy for uploading files, or don't upload
