ya but do those AVIs have 5.1 surround sound? I have a surround setup and i prefer a movie that uses it.

Most of the time a DVD-5 will contain the full movie with untouched video, they just drop the extra's and un needed sound/subs.
Most of the time you even get the retail menu, sometimes you dont though. But there are times when you need to re-encode the video to a lower quality, but they use CCE and do like 4-6 passes so its not noticable.

DVD-9s rarely use the full 8gb, sometimes only like 5-6, hense why untouched video is possible.

for those of u who dont know CCE is the professional DVD encoding software that the studios would use. its expensive stuff (if u pay for it, lol).

the biggest hurdle is that alot of the DVD releases that arent in US yet use PAL, and some players won't play it. Avoid PAL!

The best AVI to DVD IMO (that is accessible to normal folks) is the Nero Vision. Just get Nero 7 Premium and go through Nero Vision. I did Step Up for the g/f last night, 6.4mbits rate took 2.5hrs on a 3ghz 1gb ram, qualiy came out the same as the source (cam).
