Thx for the advice guys, I am a noob rider for all intents and purposes, I went and picked up a ninja 250 yesterday for 1k. It's a 97 /w 15k but it had brand new tires/clutch. The lady i bought it from rode it for 2 months and was upgrading. I will sell it when I feel like I have out grown it, I figure maybe 5-6months it should still be worth about the same as long as I don't wreck. I also got some gear yesterday, HJC helmet and some gloves. I was looking at the jackets but they(cycle store) want alot for thoes things, I was thinking maybe craigslist or something for the jacket/pants.

So after everyone told you to get something bigger. What do you go and do...you go and spend a grand on a damn 250. Probably end up pulling some dumb ---- like this riding gay biker style.

to me a smaller underpowered bike is ------- dangerous, my 500 was kinda slow when having to go up an onramp and merge at 65mph, granted i am a fatass, it is a lot less scary when i am about to hit 65 or more when i get up to the highway on my 750

before you even start the engine make sure to change the oil and check the valves, because they have such little power and you have to rev them to 12k to get any of it you will kill the valvetrain in minutes if not religously kept oil and tolerences (check online and you will see what i mean)
and like people said they get boring quick but are allot more fun than they should be

Depends on WHICH MSF course you take. Basic, you'll be ok. Advanced Course will pown you. I failed the first advanced course because my bike (not me) didn't stop fast enough for one of the tests. Second time someone dropped their bike (on the test should have been auto fail) and they let him squeak by because he did about a grand worth of damage to his bike and the instructor felt bad. About what to get, get wtf you want to. Depending on your size never smaller than a 600cc(4 cyl) or an 1100 (v twin) or you will be disappointed. Those jackets might be expensive but they beat grafting skin off your ***.

Yeah if you want a drag bike. But what if you want a sporty v-twin with fun low end torque for cruising?
