yeah, he mentioned that. Apparantly the tdi trans is the way to go, being shorter gear ratios and its for a diesal, so its tuff. How much does a 1.8t cost with under 100k on the clock?

Re: might sell my civic and get a ------ beetle
i got a 2001 1.8t jetta about 2 years ago with 52k miles... only drive it in the winter because i drive my civic when its above 40 degs and there isnt a foot of snow on the ground... it's a fun little stock car to drive but maintenance is terrible... in two years i've spent more on maintenance for the jetta than i did boosting the honda.

After I sold my G60 Corrado, I swore to myself that I would never get another VW...than came along my Jetta GLX VR6. When I sold that I made a promise to never again a VW again, and I meant it. I have have been VW free since, and no regrets, and thats my story.

I've had my turbo s for almost 4 years now. I didn't start ------- with it until 18 months ago, and before I put on the gt28 it was reliable as ---- and got 30+ on the freeway. Then I started ------- around, tore the motor down and built a 350ish hp motor that let go and put a nice hole in the block. They're fun as hell to drive around town, and with 101 and a k04 turbo I ran consistent high 13's on bfg's.
If you haven't written it off yet, take it to a local shop and get a trial ecu reflash. It lasts like 6 hours, and it's free. As far as reliability, I've only replaced 1 coil pack, a set of plugs, and that was pretty much it for the standard ----. It's coming up on 100k now and I've raped the dogshit out of it daily. It needs new shocks now, but what do you expect after 100k?

NOOOO BEETLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
but seriously, worked in a vw shop for a wile, the new beetle was the most comon car in there. If you do go with the beetle, be sure not to knock off the side mirrors, they are seriously doubling as a door hinge, your door may come off. (Smiley banging head against wall)/ invalid smiley

Anything that has sludge problems FROM THE FACTORY is junk. /thread.
The only vw anyone should even remotely consider is 06-up jetta, golf, gti. You can get a turbo jetta brand new fully loaded with 6-speed for $22K out the door. The 2.0T is a gem of a motor and vw is really trying to clean up their act in the reliability dept. 3-years into the 2.0T motor and my shop has YET to replace a failed engine. Not too shabby.
To summarize my rant:
1.8T= FAIL
2.0T= GOOD
The only thing good about a 1.8 is the fact that so many of the ******* exist its not hard to find used parts.
