Mercedese story
Hey guy's, my brother is a tech at a Mercedes dealership and he told me a story that I had to share with HMT. He said that some guy brought in a fairly new supercharged AMG (like a sporty version of Mercedes) complaining of a loud "thud" noise whenever he would be at a stop and then mash the gas pedal to the floor. The tech's checked the car out and brought it for a test drive and then back to the dealership. They determined that the problem was the car had so much power and tourque that when the guy would floor it from a stop, the tires would grab the road and the rims would spin inside the tires!!!

Yeah that's pretty nuts. Those Supercharged AMG 5.5L V8 motors make 493 hp @ 6100 rpms and 516 lb-ft @ 2,750 - 4,000 rpms. The 5.5L V12 motors make 493 hp @ 5,000 rpms and 590 lb-ft @ 1,800 - 3,500 rpms. That's some nice power for a stock luxury car.

AMG isnt no joke. my grampa has one of those AMG mercedes benz and that thing hauls ***...no wonder they have hella wide tires on the back end. but his is the roadster model...but seriously..those things can lay some numbers down at the track...if im not mistaken the most powerful AMG can do 10.3 on the quarter mile stock. you should see some of the tires they put on those things...high performance tires baby! i see them come thru my job all the time. i just dont like the sport a matic shifting but hey...i guess they dont want you to bust the drivetrain with 500 horsepower and a manual.

That sounds like a customer I had one time with a twin turbo Supra. The guy came in complaining about a bad vibration, after some check out we figured out he had twisted the drive shaft, from all the hard launches at the strip. I have worked on some fast cars but I have never seen a driveshaft twisted like this one, it looked like a dish rag. Just goes to show you what boost can do.
