if you loook at boso cars, you can see a definite distinctioin betwen the race/performance cars and the "show" cars. It is just like today, you have cars that are built for racing, and show cars. the ones w/ the big lips and crazy wings/exhaust etc are their way to display their fabrication/design skills. don't think that building one of those cars is nearly easy, it is not like they just bolt on a premade body kit like the show cars of today. their goal was to make the most wild and crazy car they could, and were/are respected for doing so. I respect those cars far more then I do the show cars of today. Today's show cars are all cookie cutter, off the shelf body kits, maybe mild modification to them (molding, canards, whatever), a chincy turbo setup, some chrome under the hood, 19"s and as many tvs as you can fit. what is so great about that? boso is all about creativity, and I love that about it.
