I ordered two of these parts kits about a week ago: http://www.centerfiresystems.com/ind...OD&ProdID=1660
$20 for a new receiver and $60 in compliance parts and you've got yourself a fully functional AK.

the m44 is the carbine version of the 91/30, everything is exactly the same untill you get to the barrel which is longer.
i have 1 m44 and 2 91/30, get one with matching serial numbers throughout the whole rifle, you are more likely to have good headspace that way. swapped bolts could be deadly.

dont even waste your time on wasr 10's, hungarian, mahdi, bulgarian, or any other 3rd world country's ak variants. i presonally stay away from milled receivers becuase that is not staying tur to kalishinkov (although his first ones were milled).

Arsenal makes some very nice AK clones, but the finish is pretty shitty...As soon as Matt at Ironwood Designs is a little less busy, it'll be getting a proper laminate stock set.
Sure the SLR-95 is a bit of a bastard AK (nuetered -74 gas block, totally unique forged receiver and the fish-gill muzzle brake) but it's been good to me and was a good deal as far as milled AKs go at $553 OTD. Takes standard hi-cap mags from the factory, the only shitty parts are the lack of a lower stock tang, no bayonet lug and a fixed muzzle device. But you can get stock sets made specially for it or install a lower tang, remove and thread the barrel if you really want a different brake and in the end...who needs a bayonet on an AK? It's a ------- Kalashnikov, beat em to death with it!
From what I've learned, don't try to build one from a parts kit unless you (or someone you know) has all the right tools to do it properly...---- gets fucked up easy.
Oh, and Mosins are fun too...
