May I suggest the msf course (motorcycle safety foundation) they teach you how to do the slow speed manovers and stuff proberlly on their own bikes so you'll be much less likely to crash after taking the course, also being young it gets you a discount on insurance, and in ky you don't have to take your license test if you take the course. I took it and thought it was really benefical as did my dad(experianced rider) and a few other experianced riders I know and all learned something new. Every one is suggesting a sport bike but if your just looking for something for transportation and not hauling *** and racing I'd suggest a cruiser, or just a regular style bike. Since your not laying on you ***** and you get nice low end power for putting around town and on the highway

why would you buy a bike for a backup only and not for entertainment? thats retarded just buy another car if its only for backup.

its funny people say buy a small bike first. my first bike was my 02 954RR... dont buy a small bike because you think its safer or easier to learn on, cause itsnot. go sit on all different sized bikes and buy the one you feel the most comfortable on. if you cant respect the bike and what its capable of then you shoudnt br riding. period. big bikes dont kill people, retards kill themselves.

a bigger bike weighs more which means its harder to recover, and harder to handle in low speed situations. a bike with a ton of power on someone who is new at riding will easily get away from them, btw any pics of your bike I'm thinking of getting something a little more sporty next year.
