that ***** funny. sort of reminds me when dad's chevy celebrity had the starter solenoid sticking and would keep cranking the starter after the car started with the key off and out. then one cold morning it stuck, car didnt' fire, pulled the hood latch and the handle broke off in his hand. so the bitch just ran until the battery died down.

They should install Jacob Brake type systems on those motors if this is somewhat of a common thing. Only guaranteed way to kill a diesel motor.
My dad told me once when something like this happened to a guys truck. My dad came over, jumped in the cab, applied the Jake-brakes to all 6 cylinders, and killed the motor instantly.
Valve seals/guides, injector orings, and bad oil control rings can all cause a diesel motor to continue to run with the fuel shut off.

That highly depends on the specific Jake brake and how many cylinders it activates on. Heavy, , soft, etc, doesn't mean ----. It's how many cylinders it works on is key.
It is true that many Jake brake models will not kill the engine even with all cylinders retarded. However, some will open the exhaust valve quite a bit more and it will kill the engine.
Some old Detroit engines had a neat way of shutting off the engine NO MATTER WHAT. They simply used a flapper valve on the inlet. Close it, engine no worky.
