The Maryland state medical examiner's office tells WBAL Radio News that the autopsy results on the bodies of 4 children and their father found Monday in a Frederick townhouse are pending further study and investigation by the Frederick Police department.
Police say the medical examiner's office needs to do additional toxicology studies before it can make conclusive decisions about what happened.
Until the toxicology results are complete, the medical examiner's office has classified the autopsy results as "pending."
Preliminary autopsy results ruled out shooting and stabbing as the cause of death for the children, Lt. Thomas Chase said. He said poisoning and suffocation are possibilities, and that police will learn more after the state medical examiner's office completes toxicology studies that could take at least a week.
Meanwhile, the children's mother remains missing. Police are still looking for Deysi Benitez. They say they've completed a missing persons report and pursued all leads, but without results.
Police in Frederick were also still searching for a motive in the deaths.

Police records show that officers were called eight times in the past year to the Frederick house where four children and their father were found dead Monday.
The calls included noise and parking issues, disorderly conduct and a verbal dispute. Most were resolved without a police report or arrest. The records show a theft case is still open.
The remains of the children, ages 1 to 9, were found in their beds. Their father, 28-year-old Pedro Rodriguez, was found hanged. The children's mother, Deysi Benitez, is missing.
A charge of theft less than 100 dollars against Benitez was resolved in May when she agreed to do 24 hours of community service in return for having the charge placed on the inactive docket. Her attorney, Dino Flores, says Benitez had tried to shoplift some children's clothing.
Benitez also pleaded guilty in 2002 to a charge of theft less 500 dollars. She was fined and spent a day in jail.
The family had emigrated from El Salvador to the United States, police said.
Lopez said that when he lived with the family, Rodriguez had a second job at a Uno Chicago Grill restaurant.
Managers at Outback, Toys R Us and Pizzeria Uno refused to comment.
Cliff note: 5 people dead in house. 4 children, and father. Father hung himself. Mother is nowhere to be found.
This is the kind of ---- that makes me want to move to Canada... Practically in my own back yard, 5 people are found randomly dead.
