no reason why i'm running fedora specificly. I like the yum installer and im more famlliar with redhat/ other versions of fedora. If I was going to set something up on my friends computer id use unbuntu, and run 32 bit to make everything work easier.

Beryl is awesome eyecandy, but i've been having problems with it where it wants to crash and makes the whole screen go white, so I've just been using compiz that comes pre-installed on fc6.

VIA Eden 600 Mhz, 133 Mhz FSB, 128MB PC133, slapped on the backside of a 15" LCD. Integrated S3 video (resolution set by DIP switches), integrated audio, the usual USB/serial/parallel/LAN ports. Runs a Disk-On-Chip aka DOC setup, 64MB flash, on a laptop IDE bus, but I have a CF adapter with 340MB Microdrive (IBM CF II brand name, IIRC) perched on it.

this install of xp on my laptop has lasted over a year and doesn't seem to have slowed down much. but it has a little. i would've formated about a month ago if i could find my xp cd

Go to demonoid or TPB and look up Tiny XP rev05 if you want something light and snappy. No further updates allowable, but not many more are going to come down the pipe as M$ concentrates on Vista.

I only use Linux for a terminal and emacs. If I had a program to write and compile C++ for Windows I would never touch Linux.

such programs can be found by searching. i got windows visual studio 2005 off of isohunt.com , there is also a free C++ program that you can get. i have the link right here for you - http://www.programarts.com/cfree_en/download.htm

thats what i use in combination with ms visual studio 2005 to do visual basics programming and codes for other ---- lol. hope its useful to ya.

Well, you can always use dev-C++. Complete IDE using Mingw port of GCC as its compiler. You could also try cygwin, which gives you a linux-like environment for windows.
