No the X-type is not the cheapest Jag ever made, the S-type is. The S-type originally sold for aprox. $40,000 whereas the X-type was $50,000. I have driven two different S-types but I've only riden in the X-type. They are no doubt very nice cars, but I'm not the biggest fan of Jags.
Ford likes to screw up lots of cars. They now own Land Rover and I never did hear what happened but the had in a plan in the works to purchase BMW. If they didn't buy BMW, they had planned to remove the BMW powerplant from the Land-Rover and replace it with a good 'ol Ford.
Stupid Bastards.

You got it backwards there. The X-type MSRP's for 30k to mid 30k. S-type MSRP is 40k to 60k+. Making the X-TYPE the cheapest current production Jaguar car. It was introduced as Jaguar's entry level car.

The X-type is a nice car for the money, looks good and makes you feel luxurious while driving it. Abit underpowered though.
