i would really love to see somebody build something like this. my only concern would be weight, obviously a lot of the handling and power is in the weight, the atom car only weighs a little over 1,000 lbs. i was thinking more along the lines of a turbo hayabusa motor or something of that type.

There is a UK company that builds its own crank and crankcase to merge 2 HB engines into a V8. I think boosted they got 1000hp for race use at like under 200lb with tranny. Your gonna pay race price though.

The best P/W honda car motor seems to be the S2000 at like 240hp and like 275lbs. Then again, you could do a DART block buildup with a forged bottem end for reliability. You can tell I thought about it before...

I was surprised how neutral it was for the engine almost being cantilevered over the rear. I always thought when I built my custom tube frame car it would need to be mid engine..

What about a lotus 7 with a s2000 motor. Not as bad ***, but it would kill anything on the road. And I've seen them built for way less than $20G.

Not much.
Even the "EXOTICS" are all lame now. Ferrari and Jag are owned by Ford. Lamborghini is owned by Chrysler. VW ownes Rolls Royce, Bently and everything else. Even Porsche is geting lame. The world needs a car to get excited about and this thing kicks ***.
I was thinking about it all day. Everything to build this thing is right at our fingertips. A Honda front clip gives you the motor, trans ECU, wiring harnes and rear suspension. Wheels and tires, brakes, seats, guages, fuel cell and steering wheel are all off the shelf parts. The frame and front suspension are the only trick parts on the car. The front end can be had from a number of sorces from the race and street rod world and the frame is not a big deal. I could get a prototype up and running in a year or less for under $10,000. I have experience in custom sports car building with a huge background with Jags, BMW and Porsch. I also have two mechanical engineer friends that would help. So why not?

Yawn.

I have seen it all before and I cant afford any of it. Can you? The stuff I could afford like the Mustang, I wouldnt buy because its Ford junk. The same old Viper and Corvete. I already have a truck and I dont want a Cadillac. This is where it comes down to personal taste. I have seen and done it all, I have owned 400HP big block muscle cars, turbo 4 cylinders, V12 Jags and every thing in between. I went through a British car faze, a German car faze and I did the V8 buba thing. I am board and want something different.

I can't be the only one.

i was planing one building a small car kindove like an attack but a one seater less flamboyant looking. using a turbo busa engine for the power plant mounted midship. it realy wouldent be to much to do. the hardest part would be suspention/ making sure the frame was tottaly square. you could honestly make allot of money by doing this if the cars were afordable. were you thinking somthing like an that atom/ and elise. or somthing more useable by normal people or maybe try to do both. either way i would love to build a little sports car that was fast as ---- and could hand a modenas its *** .
