Default ITB's Just won some. need setup instructions.

Before I start, i know, i know, this is a turbo forum, but i know jeff did this setup before, now i have done alot of turbo setups before and finally want to try something new for next spring, i just won some CBR 954 ITB's off ebay, my setup will be a B16A2 in a EK hatch. i did alot of reaserch on honda tech about ITB's but would still like someone to run me by the whole setup for one last time.

There is a few things i still dont know how to do or make, for example, what is a vacuum canister?

So if some of you who have a bit more experience can tell me what i should look for, do, avoid, etc etc, please share...jeff? i'm aimning at you mostly since i know you've done a great setup using GSXR ITB's

thanks guys.

Just use your normal ecu and pick up a VAFC and that would be fine for tuning. Only thing with those cbr ITB is that they have unequal airhorns.

Not to knock Jeff's ITB setup..

..but, there are more efficient ways of doing it that will produce even better results than the impressive 30whp Jeff created with his!

Basically, the chief difference that would have made this setup better is the intake manifold flange.

In NA setups, you want to get the most power you can, and it's not as easy to gain horsepower in an NA application as it is in an FI.

Anyway... To compliment Jeffs setup, a seperate intake manifold flange should be made. Basically, one without the injector holes. Similar to an exhaust flange but drilled for the intake side. This allows the runners to be perfectly straight for increased velocity into the chambers.

And in doing this, you get rid of the "stock" injector ports. This allows the use of the injector ports in the ITBs themselves, yielding better atomization of the fuel... again, more power there.

Your choice in ITBs will play a large part in your ability to do this. Suzuki ITBs are truly individual and can be seperated into 4 different peices and spaced apart with a threaded rod, and and some washers. Space them out to match your fuel rail. Then drill out the ITB injector hole witha 3/8" drill bit.

Other ITBs like the Honda CBR (people use these because of the pluy and play TPS) come in sets of "two". Meaning you won't be able to seperate them and straighten up your runners.

Depending on how "serious" you are about the ITB setup, either will work...

I am using Hayabusa 45mm ITBs.. a lot of people use GSX-R 100 42mm ITBs..

GSX-R 750 / 1000 ITB's cannot be spaced apart

They have about 60mm spacing between each throttle body, The spacing is almost perfect for B-series. The Factory intake manifold flange can be used but if you want to get real crafty you can machine a intake flange and make your own runners. Personally the easier way is just to use a stock manifold because I didnt want to pay someone 50 bucks to make me an aluminum flange. Also if you do decide to make your own flange and put the injectors up on the throttle bodys where they belong you will need to block off the injector nozzel/spray area on the head for smooth flow.

After doing my setup I really dont think it was worth the time and effort, ya they sounded kinda cool I guess, but with a decent IM like a Skunk2 or a factory ITR you will be just fine. Keep in mind out of the top fastest 3 honda all motor cars in the world only 1 uses itb's.

Those can be spaced out. :-/

...there are 3 long 4mm rods. I can see them in that picture. They're just like the Hayabusa.

As far as spacing, I don't know about the GSX-R by experience, but from what I have seen in pictures of other setups, they needed to be spaced out about the same as my Hayabusa ones. About 1cm or so each to line up with the fuel rail.

I know for a fact that Hayabusa ones didn't line up with the fuel rail. Wasn't even close.

As far as it being worth it.. ya, I think only a minute fraction of us will get the full use of them. I for one, am just doing it just to do it. I have a Skunk2 mani sitting in a box in my garage. This just seems like a fun and "different" project to do.

Take a look at these pics, look close. You cannot seperate the 750/1000 gixer ITB's. They are cast into one unit. Trust me I wanted take them apart space them out a little bit like what you did, and possibly even over bore them. But since they were all together I could not.

Maybe it was just a select few years, that they were together. But I know for certain the 750's and 1000's are the same. The pic above this thread looks just like GSXR 600 ITB's.

Btw, I know the long *** bolts that you are talking about, And I even took those out thinking maybe it would seperate, but when its all cast together there is no way to get them to split without cutting.
