I have no choice but to let them salvage it but I wanted to keep the car and take off the parts i just put in it(k04 turbo, chip and bigger injectors, about 4k in investment, + preventive maintenance ---- and new set of all seasons. anyway the insurance company is cuttin me a decent check (almost blue book) if I let them take the car but I get fucked if I want to keep the car. It is over $5k differnce so I cant afford to keep it.

I was thinking about taking the check, tracking the car down at auction and picking it up at a competitive price at the auction. Unless somebody figures out i got performance parts in her, very hard to tell unless you really know your ----, I think i can pick her up really cheap because of the damage +, s title. Does this sound like a stupid idea?

basicly check from insurance company ~15k, 10k if i want to keep her, 4k invested and im thining shed go under 4k at auction, if i pick her up for that much I can get my perfomance parts back, strip and sell for parts to recover a 3-4k more and donate the car for tax credit does this sound like a good plan?

also I just slapped this turbo in like 3 months ago, its rebuilt and smokes a little when the car is cold.. is there anything i can put in her (thinner oil, additive etc) to make her smoke like a bitch so no one else bids on her?
what you need to do is take all your aftermarket ---- off before the tow truck comes and gets it, but AFTER they cut you the check. i used to do a LOT of towing for insurance auto auctions, and it wasn't uncommon for people to take seats/heads/wheels off before we picked them up. a4's are piles of ---- anyways, and as slow as stephen hawking climbing stairs.

oh, sell me that k04 for cheap.

exactly, if you have the car at your house you need to take everything off the car as soon as possible, hell pull the entire rotating assembly and jb weld the crank pulley to the front of the block. why should you get fucked because of what someone else did.

That is correct. They tell you that you have to return the rental, but you don't until you have been paid and purchased a new car. You partially fucked yourself as the escalating rental bill is one of the things that makes the insurance company settle.

You should go ahead and call a lawyer. I'd go ahead and tell them that they can agree to your price by noon or you go lawyer shopping. Also keep asking to speak to someone with more authority - the housemate swears if he doesn't like what he hears he immediately asks to speak to that person's boss, and he's always gotten what he is comfortable with.

you made a BIG mistake talking to her insurance comp in the first place. Every time I was in an accident the first thing my insurance said was 'my name is xxx and unless it's me or someone representing my insurance firm, give them my name and number and don't say a word' One accident they tried 3 different people to try and call me to talk. I just kept telling them they knew who my insurance company was, take it up with them.

Everyone's right though, it's your car she fucked up, they need to keep you happy.

damn, if it wasnt clear before the car had to get towed on the insurance company's dime, this post wouldnt exist and i'd be in my garage strippin the ---- out of the car right now They are also paying the storage fee, it is at a local lot and I wont concent to let them take it to their lot until they pay up. Also, there is no question that the lady was the guilty party, she admitted it on the spot and didnt get a ticket only because it was on private property. Cops were called and I do have the police report. The problem I have is gettin this ------- to factor my 'investments' into the check. I have to go through her insurance company because she was the guilty party and has coverage, I would have to pay deductible/ rates go up if I make my insurance company deal with it.

This ---- is a bitch to deal with on top of work and school, but ---- it I'm going lawyer shopping if I dont have a check by this weekend. Insurance on its own is a scam, I've paid over 10k the last 7 years ive been driving and haven't seen a ------- cent back.
