Those are some laughable statements. Mitsubishi has had model specific problems just like EVERY OTHER MANUFACTURER but the crank walk thing is mostly a ghost in the machine. Out of the 4 million units DSM built there is only an estimated 3 thousand or so cases of "crank walk" and it only pertained to a select VIN number batch. So they had a bad month, it happens. It's not like Honda has never had any problems. I don't know anyone who has even even seen crank walk let alone fallen victim.
Work on them all the time? Eh hem... You make it sound like its a Nissan GTR. That's just not the case. Evo's are pretty solid cars until some jackass comes alone and start hacking the ---- out of them. (Just like any other car). The main reason I see older DSM's go to ---- is because they aren't properly cared for. You get kids ages 18-24 (typically) that want a sports car but don't want to foot the bill for maintenance. No car is gonna survive that kind of abuse and neglect.

And yes, I see that you changed the title and subsequent post. I was just pushing buttons. Good job, edited for correctness.

P.S. They Honda killer statement wasn't entirely fair, DSM's/EVO's/3000 GT VR4's are Mustang killers too. :P

Quoted for truth. I work on DSM's every damn day, and I see more booty, ghetto *** honda's break than the DSM's and Evo's that come out of our shop. It's like with any other car, it's going to be an un-reliable piece of donkey ---- when you get some ****** junior in high school that thinks he knows how to mod cars. The only reason DSM's come off the way they do, is because they're SO easy to MAKE unreliable.... Couple cheap mods, and you'll easily be running more boost that a stock headgasket car can hold... Couple cheap mods on a honda, and you have a sweet rice car with intake and exhaust... You tell me which one is going to break first :1

this is an iPhone post so I hope it makes sence.

Maybe I have just had the pleasure of coming across the few cars that had problems, but my experience with them has been bad.

I am a sponsor on a 3000gt/stealth site, I am amazed at some of the bullshit they put up with. I can't remember how many times I have seen ecu's take a ---- for no reason. I'm not saying that honda don't have problems, but there is nothing real serious like that. You are right, a Honda with a few bolt-ons is just a rice boy noise maker, but if you put a turbo on it then it has some potential. Mitsubishis are the same. If you take any of the N/A mitsu's and put a few bolt-ons on it, you will get the same results.

Nah, you just saw a rare occurrence, like seeing two Deloreans parked next to each other at the grocery store. And your dad should take better care of his VR4.

I am not a mitsu fan really. I like the evo looks wise and all but DAM that car is insain or at least for a street driven pump gas car its just plain nuts.
on a side not the crank walk happens more then I think most people even know. I belive there is a kid about 5 mins from my house that had that issue. and my buddy has a 3000gt had that car all of 2 months and spun a rod bearing out of the blue and he does take car of his cars.

I agree, rod bearings spin with some alarming frequency (Cough Cough) but cranks don't just take a hike out of the block like some people would have you believe. It typically occurred on the 96 1/2 year model manual trans gst's and gsx's (which only make up 3% of DSM's sold). I've never ever heard/read about it happening on any of the automatics, 4G64's (spyders) GS, or RS's.

Like I said, a small portion of the DSM population are even susceptible, lest they actually have a problem. They have issues yes, but they become piles because of the douche rockets that buy them and beat them like rentals.
