here's another input from a person currently in the Air Force..
You CAN transfer from Active -> Reserves.. it's called Palace Chase. BUT, you have to do twice the amount of whatever you have left in active into reserves (i.e. 2 years left active = 4 yrs reserves)
And right now, they are downsizing the Air Force by 16k-20k (yes.. thats K as in THOUSAND!!) and I am one of those that signed up to get out. I am out in February!! Done 3 years instead of 6 and I get full benefits as a regular veteran (not a 20yrs+). (Force Shaping II, is what is called if anyone is wondering.)
Here's what the general basically said.. All Airmen will be deployed.. jobs that are non-deployable will be contracted to civilians.
I am currently an E-4 and from what I see if I would have stayed in longer is that my job as a supervisor will be a Babysitter (like many have said).
