Re:I'm leaving for the miltary guys
WARNING: LONG AND PROBABLY DOESN'T MAKE MUCH SENCE... BUT IT DID TO ME.
As another member of this board in the active military (E-5, NAVY) I have to agree that this isn't for everyone. I know it's not for me. I've been in for 2yrs 10mnths and the last 3yrs 2mnths can't pass fast enough. However, it is still a good thing for some kids to go through. You get paid a relatively good salary (when you include food, housing, health care, etc...), you get money to go through college (GI Bill and gov will cover classes taken), and some fields actually earn you college credits. I am a nuclear trained ET and I have 96 college credits and I've never taken a college course in my life. I definately suggest the military if you don't have the money for college (which is exactly why I joined) because it really is a good opportunity for some people. But if you do have the ability to go to college, do it, don't go enlisting.

I think its a very good thread.
Lots of good info- and i'm sure someone is taking notes on things. I didnt have anyone to tell me this ---- before I went to the military.- im sure there is someone out there needing this info.

See, the thing is i'm in the delayed entry program. And I think that if I walk away now and I decide to go to the military later, they don't want you to come back. And another thing is I would hate to dissappoint my parents, military parents. And I don't really have the drive to go to college right now. But yeah, I got 2 months to pull out (hehe, no sexual reference included) so I can think about it. I would hate to leave all my best buddies here in Cali.

You have an advantage having military parents. Alot of the guys I went with knew more than me because of thier parents' experience. Nobody I ever knew went to the military.
Don't live for "what other people will think". Live for your own decisions.
And the military won't look down on you because you back out of the delayed entry program. Even after I got out I had army recruiters asking me what my re-enlistment code was. I told him I would chew on a gun barrel before I went back into the military so he wouldn't have to worry about it. I mean, I got an "uncharacterized" general discharge for an article 15 (laughing in an officers face) and the guy was still trying to talk me into signing up. They really don't care if you back out now.

The way I see it, if you wanna go to the military, make sure you want to, cause it'll be a 4 year committment.

Re:I'm leaving for the miltary guys
boost hit that right on the head. if you are gonna go into the military DO NOT do it if you doing it for someone else.
You will not be happy with yourself and you will hate life for those 4 years. Find yourself a good job, and get into some school, at least something like a small class or something like that. get into a welding class or something, just to get you into school. when I was in highschool, i was the biggest *** clown, didn't do anything, just barely made it by. now, I can not wait to go to college! I cant wait! just take a break from school, and then get yourself into it again.
Dont go into the military for someone else. Tell your parents, you live you life for you, not them. There comes a time in ones life where you tell your parents what you want, and not OK MOM whatever you say...if this is what you want...
and just because you signed into the dep program, dont think you cant get out. the military will still want you. i promise
