Great Danes are awesome dogs but if you buy one make sure you go through a reputable breeder that has been in the buisness for a long time and will offer you a full health guarantee. They have some health issues like hip displasea and something where there stomach gets twisted and they start coughing up foam and die within a few hours if you don't take them to a vet, i forgot what its called. also since they are so big and have long legs you have to be carefull with them, i have heard of them getting broken legs just playing rough in the back yard, and then theres the training.

but all in all they are my favorite breed, just don't let the breeder ---- you on the contract, they should have a grace period where after you get the dog you can have them checked out by a vet and if they have any issues you can take the dog back for a refund or anouther dog, otherwise you might get stuck with a 2000 dollar dog that will always be sick and not live very long, and cost way more money.

$7000 for 2 dogs??

I have a doggy door in my slider for my dogs to go out and ----. It's like 12" wide and 18" tall. How the ---- do you allow a dog that's bigger than you to go out and ---- on it's own? Or do you have to let it out like 6 times a day and hope it doesn't flood the house or take a shi-tzu sized ---- while you're gone.

I did that with my dog when he was a puppy, but I just can't see doing that their entire life. Might as well give the dog to someone who has the time to stay at home and take care of it.

we have a pure bred great dane. she's probably one of the smartest dogs i have ever seen and the funniest personality. but i agree, they have lots of health issues especially when they get older. ours is about 6ish and you can hear her joints clicking sometimes when she walks. shes also allergic to chicken/protein.

oh and ours was $1400, show quality breed. $3500 would be a rip off. i can get you the names/numbers of some legit local breeders when youre ready to buy one.

Yea alot of people think that keeping a dog in a cage all day is cruel but its not at all, dogs are den animals (all canids such as wolves, foxes, etc utilize dens to rear their young and as a shelter from weather) so when you cage train a dog you are basically giving it a safe place to rest while you are away. this is especially good if you have a dog that is really hyperactive because they won't spend all day running around barking/tearing up ---- or whatever, plus you don't have to worry about them while you are away.

I made a mistake with my boxer puppy and left him alone with my other dog while i ran to the gas station, was gone 10 minutes, came back and puppy was limping with a dislocated shoulder thanks to my other dog, so i sort of learned the hard way.
