It is definitly random stuff.

put in the (aftermarket) timing chain, marks are off so i pull the engine replace all the seals and fix the timing, head gasket blows 400 miles later. replace the headgasket, radiator blows 300 miles later, new radiator is defective, install replacement and now the thermostat (replaced when the engine was out) won't open. I may have got that fixed...after 4 hours of bleeding the system.

I'm telling you it all sounds like maintenance age problems. Just get all the bugs out and you'll have a decent car. Unless it is all fucked up inside and out, then just get rid of the money pit. If it is in good condition get it all fixed up.
