dont buy the ready made.. just stuff it with news paper.. sheetrock over it.. wait till it dries.. sheetrock some more.. wait till it dries.. then sand then sheetrock some more than sand..

as far as the acoustic spray is concerned.. ull need to match the texture..

trick is to rip off part of the ceiling with texture so u can match the right acoustic you need. just go to the acoustic spray can aisle and spray on a piece of cardboard and match it up

picture alone isnt always accurate..

is the accoustic painted over? or is it just acoustic?

if its painted over then buy some flat white spray paint. .spray over it then ur done

Or since there's a solid chunk right there, he can just adhere that in place with some ready mixed stuff, thus eliminating all the sanding and what not

stick those litte screen up there, patch it then re do the finish

the patch will make it look like ----.. and ull still be able to see it.

the whole idea of news papers and sheetrock is to finish faster.. and get a better look.. u dont need the patch since its in the ceiling and how strong it is doesnt really matter.
