IIRC last year Honda, Suzuki, Kawi, and Yamaha all made it into the 10's with their 600 class bikes, and a couple made high 9's by strapping them down and changing the rear sprocket. Torque from a 60mph roll prolly isn't hurting them too much since they can likely pull the front end up at that speed anyway.

My guess is the guy on the bike wasn't ready. If he gave the dude a thumbs up, he's off the clutch. That's when the teg's driver said he punched it. The guy on the bike would have to grab the clutch, downshift 3-4 gears, then go. By the time he started accelerating the teg prolly had a 4-5 car length, 15-20mph head start, and they probably didn't get above 120mph in the race.
