Default HOTREX HIT THE DYNO

haha interesting day. went to the dyno after installing the 3 bar and had some mixed results.

on 12 psi i made 225.5 hp and 208 ftlbs of torque. 6 pulls were within a hp or 2 of this. then i went for a 16 psi pull.

car pulled hard until 5500 rpms and started hesitating. like i was blowing out the spark. it made 251.9 hp at 5500 rpms. i think if it pulled clean i would have been 270ish at 16 psi. i backed the boost down to 12 psi again and it ran fine.

so i need to fix this ---- then assualt the dyno somemore.
also my valve stem seals took a ---- on me today. they didnt like 16 psi. so now when i let off the gas i get a nice puff of smoke.
got a z6 head goin on next weekend. also after it started smokin i got nervous did a compression test and got 178/180/181/179

theres still alot of improving to do on this baby. but 251.9hp was seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. my dyno sheets are listed at www.bristoldyno.com

A BIG SHOUTOUT TO MY BOY PHiZ .i owe ya one for all the help

Everything on the tuning look good? I hit 235 whp at 16.5psi on a motor I still have never seen the air/fuel on. I was expecting better after you put that bigger turbo on.
Does it smoke when you stop driving and idle? That's the same ---- mine did. How do you know it was the valve seals? God I wish I did a compression check on my ----, but it's going tomarrow to SSL(fucken whatever)

Nonetheless, good job partner.

it woulda made 270 it it pulled to 7500 like it shoulda. 270 on a stock d16 other than pistons and rods is pretty nice. yeah it puffs ever so slightly at idle. then if i get into boost..no smoke. then when i chop the throttle . puff puff pass. hehe. my compression looks good so i am going to say it isnt my rings. it still hauls ***.

Ok, slept at Hotrex's house. Woke up at 9am. We had a dyno slot at 2, so we were on a tight timetable. We had discussed the night before, what we The plan for the day was first attempt the 3bar, if that worked, then attempt the 550s.

Well the 3bar worked like a charm right off the bat (after spending 20 minutes making a basemap.)

We played with the boost controller a little, 16PSI is what the car WANTS to run. The thing is ------- ill.

So we decided we had enough time to drop in the 550s. We installed the 550s, (without shooting ourselves in the eye with gasoline (tbone!). It didn't run right, and it didn't appear to be the ROM, HotRex said it definitly sounded like it was on 3 cylinders. This is when we notice that the car is putting out a little bit of white smoke.

So we go back to the 450's. And we pull the plugs and do a compression test. the 2 plugs closest to the alternator side have oily threads/tops. But compression came up clean. I said valve stems. And I said we were going to the Dyno. Always better to burn out, than fade away, right?!

So, immediatly it's apparent that we're having spark problems on 16PSI. Most of the days runs were made at 12PSI. We stopeed, gapped the plugs tighter, and bought some new plug wires, no love.

This was a good dyno day, we learned what combination work and don't work, the dyno really can be an invaluable diagnostic enviornment.

Well, here are the pics, I did a blow by blow on the dyno runs, so you can kinda see what happened. Read the captions.

"I'm crossing my fingers hoping it's valve seals" haha.

Who made that intake manifold?
