my grandmas house is an old homestead, the framing is 6x6 and 12x12 chestnut beams in the basement/floors/walls, i had to run her new water lines this winter when the old ones froze (no insulation, and pipes were ran down the outside walls instead of the center) it ------- sucked drilling holes for the new pipes, the floor was about 7-8" thick. hardwood on top, followed by tile, then oak planking, followed by what looked like cherry and more chestnut.

for the longest time i always wanted to make a pallet boat and float around on our lake for a weekend and then burn the thing down. had plans to make it big and bum ballin. with a burn bail some lounge chairs. with plenty of food. i bet that last a lot longer then you expect. if anything after 5 years. it starts to warp or fall through so you throw some more plywood on top or break it down to build a new one like you were talking about.

Robb and I finished framing and erected the walls today. Didn't have any 12' studs so I just cut some extensions and made it work. The studs in the walls aren't evenly spaced because of it, but I don't think it matters in a structure this small, especially since it'll likely be a simple gable roof.
