Could I use an old school friggin school project + a regular old monitor from like 94? I've got a few spare monitors and that projector I can get for free...

Yeah, you can use an overhead, but you'll need an LCD panel since it's just a clear piece of glass. All you'd need to do is raise it off the projector a centimeter or inch and make sure it has some good airflow to keep the LCD cool.

Obviously won't be the best quality but it'll work pretty damn well and be much easier/cheaper to set up.

Better keep Ryan away unless you want holes in your wall.

I'm sure it could work, I'd just be concerned with the controller board. With a regular LCD panel, you have a bit more flexible cable length and a separate controller board. With a laptop, it's all shoved into the smallest space possible. You could possibly find some PCB cable extensions, or mount the controller at an L-shape from the screen (in this case, the entire computer, hell keep the keyboard on the side of the projector and you have a pc/projector built in one :P). Only thing I'd be worried about then is cooling. 450w lights get pretty ----------ing hot.

Nice job! A Panosonic projector went missing from my wifes work a while back....we found it in our closet later.
