Yes you can overclock laptops, a processor is a processor, doesn't matter what it's in (my router, graphing calc, and phone are all overclocked as well).

First of all, your bios has to support editing timing and voltage settings for the processor. In the old day, you had to solder or cut jumpers on the processor to overclock, now it's all done via software. I suggest you search google for "overclock [insert processor name]" and read around to see what settings other people used. If you're using the stock fan, you REALLY don't want to push it too far. Processors life span decreases the more heat they're forced to endure, and too much voltage will fry them. The fact that you can't install aftermarket cooling for laptops makes it a little more risky for overclocking, but I'm sure it's possible and you should be able to make small, reliable boosts in power at least.

Then we'll tell you what to buy so you can build it. Remember that anything OEM assembled you buy, regardless of what it costs, or who's name brand it is. will be made with the absolute cheapest, bullshittyest parts they can find laying around the OEM------parts-bin.

just build a comp, it's not just saving money, or spending the same money to get more performance. it's free reliability and better parts warranties.

He's really right. Dell and others sell computers for "the average consumer" (aka, people that don't know jack ---- about computers) and put the shittiest parts possible in the computers, because they want a nice profit. Expect to get a motherboard with as much ---- integrated as possible. The monitor will suck ***. The speakers will suck ***. The printer will be junk like my mom's who's is ------- up after only a few uses.

Seriously, build your own. It will come out cheaper (especially since you won't have to pay for the windows license), will not have a buncha bullshit preinstalled, will be made of GOOD parts, and you'll get that warm feeling in your appendix when you accomplish slapping your own together.
